Editorial

Sony's mobile division has seen one of the worst transformations over the last decade. Going from inventing the first submersible phone, first compact flagship and first notchless screen (among other things), Sony crashed to a lack of basic software work, low quality imaging and finally: abandonment of what they championed as truly better mobile phone solutions (the 21:9 screen aspect ratio, narrow-and-easy-to-handle 68mm bodies, excellent battery life long before its Chinese rivals). Today, Xperia 10 VII looks embarrassing with its utter lack of excellence in any single department (except for the Micro SD slot).

PROs
light and relatively compact, okay SD 6 Gen 3 with UFS 3.0 performance, IP68 protection, SD memory expansion, 4 years of stabile stock-like Android, fast USB-C 3.0 port
CONs
plastic back, just 24hr endurance from a 5000mAh lithium battery with >100min slow wired charging, big chunky bezels on a sub-1300nits 420ppi 120Hz OLED screen with no variable refresh rate or HDR10+, occasional good image from a 50MP 24mm PDAF main + 12MP 16mm non-AF ultrawide setup, no AF on a basic 8MP 26mm selfie, unreliable video recording, disappointing direction and concerns over Sony's mobile division future
